I searched up on the internet so now I know what the story is called! It's called, Mortimer's Christmas Manger by Karma Wilson.
Here's the story! It might be a little inaccurate because I might not remember everything.
Once upon a time lived a little mouse called Mortimer. He lived in a hole in a house that was really cold, scary, and uncomfortable. One day, he saw a huge tree outside decorated with lights and had a star on top. Next to the tree, there was a table, and on the table was a little house perfect for him! He decided to use the tree to climb up to the tabletop so he could get to the house. He got to the house and it was perfect, except for one thing. There were many statues of people just as small as he was; there were animals, 3 men riding on donkeys that wore fancy clothing, a baby and his parents, and a manger covered with straw.
"What are these statues doing here?" Mortimer said. "I'm going to push all of them away!"
However, Mortimer kept the manger covered with straw and used it as a bed. It was very comfortable and warm!
The next day, when Mortimer came back to his perfect house, he found the statues all back into their original place!
"I'm so frustrated!" Mortimer exclaimed. "I'm going to pull them all out again!"
After all of the statues were gone, he slept comfortable on the manger again.
The next night, when Mortimer came back to the house, it was not surprising that the statues were back in place. But as he was pulling the statues out, he saw people sitting around in a circle and heard the dad tell a story. The story was about a baby called Jesus that is the messiah and was born in a little manger. During the night he was born, 3 wise men rode on donkeys to Bethlehem to visit Jesus.
"Oh, so that's the reason why the little statues are all there," said Mortimer. "Now, I'm going to put all of the things back into their place."
So Mortimer pulled and dragged all of the little statues, but this time, he pulled them back inside.
That night, Mortimer was back into his little uncomfortable hole.
"Hmm, maybe Jesus can help me find a better home than this."
So Mortimer prayed to Jesus that night.
The next morning, he spotted a perfect house! It was covered with little candies and the roof and walls were all made from gingerbread cookies!
"I guess Jesus did find a perfect home just for me!" Mortimer exclaimed happily.
THE END
