Yesterday was the C.P.Y.O Opening Concert at West Valley College. (C.P.Y.O.=California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra) There are two groups, the Associate group and the Senior group. I'm in Associate, and my two brothers are in Senior.
The Associate group played all 4 movements of the Mozart Symphony #25 in g minor and the Senior group played the Finlandia Overture by Sibelius, the Dvorak Cello Concerto in b minor (1st movement), and all 4 movements of the New World Symphony in e minor also by Dvorak.
The Mozart Symphony #25 is so boring! Since I play the French Horn, I never get the melody in that song. And because I don't have the melody, it's easier to get lost so I messed up a bit on the last part of the 1st movement. :P So that was really boring. It's not really fair because my brothers in the Senior group gets to play fun songs. Well, I guess they get to play fun songs because they're better. :(
Well, if anyone plays an instrument like:
-violin/viola -bassoon
-cello -french horn
-flute -bass/double bass
-clarinet -percussion
-oboe -trombone
-tuba -trumpet
and other stuff, you can join C.P.Y.O. so I won't be so bored! Just kidding. But I think that joining orchestras (doesn't matter which one) is a good experience for everyone, especially for wind players who play in bands at school because it's good to have experience playing with strings, not only with other winds.
