Today was the 2011 CMEA (California Music Educators Association or something) Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted by Miller Middle School! I go to Miller, so most Miller band people either perform and/or volunteer for judges' helpers, ratings poster, etc.
But it's cool how at these kinds of events, it's kind of like an unexpected reunion with old friends. I always meet someone I haven't seen for like, FOREVER, and I talk to them again and we're all happy. :) I used to go to CPYO (I might have talked about it in earlier blog posts) and I met this french horn person (Emma) and she was my best french horn buddy!!! Usually, french horn players are guys, so she was my only french horn friend that I was really close with. But then we both quit CPYO after that one season and I didn't see her ever since. :'( But I saw her sister (who plays the oboe) at the festival today and it was really cool! I also helped out as a judge's helper sort of thing (I kept track of the time during performances), and she performed in the room I was helping out at so I listened to her ensemble/trio perform! They were really good! :D I also saw some Lynbrook people but I didn't really talk to them; I just said hi since they were my brother's friends.
Here's a funny story (kind of). To me it's pretty funny. :P So my friend (she plays bassoon) also performed and volunteered at the festival today. At the ratings posters (where they post all the judges' ratings), she saw her really good friend from elementary school and went to say hi and stuff. So my friend was like, "HI RACHEL!!! We haven't seen each other for like, a billion years!!! OMG I missed you!" And the girl (apparently, her name is Rachel), was like, "Wait, who are you?" And my friend was like, "WHAT?!?!? In case you forgot, we were pretty close friends in Garden Gate Elementary for like, 3 years." And she was still like, "I don't remember you...." or something like that. Then, like after 5 minutes of my friend describing to Rachel their past experiences together in elementary school, she finally remembered. It was pretty sad...my friend got kind of upset....
Anyway, my same friend's last name is Josyula, which is pretty uncommon, and she said she sees another person's name on programs and schedules with the exact same last name all the time: this year and last year at the Solo & Ensemble festival, the science fair, her dance recital/competition, and like, all sorts of special events. So she tried to find this person but she never managed to find that person. Wouldn't that be creepy if it happened to you?
