Today's Church

Today, I went to church (as usual, on Saturday nights). Today, we talked about the book of Romans, and focused on Romans 12.

For some background info:
-The Bible is divided into two parts; the Old Testament and the New Testament. The reason there's a new Testament is because it starts when Jesus (the son of God) was born.
-It is further divided into a bunch of different "books." Some books are really short though; the book of Jonah is only about one side of a page long.
-The books are further divided into separate chapters. So Romans 12 would be chapter 12 of the book of Romans.
-Because the chapters are also quite long sometimes, to make specific parts easier to spot out of quote, the chapters are broken into verses. A verse is usually no longer than 3 sentences.

Anyway, I find it really cool how so much can be learned from every verse, no matter how short or how long it is. Here are some verses that I found the most interesting:

Romans 12:2- ...Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:3- ...Don't think of yourself more highly than you should. Be reasonable when you think about yourself. Keep in mind the amount of faith God has given you.

Romans 12:5- So also we are many persons. But in Christ we are one body. And each part of the body belongs to all the other parts....

Romans 12:9- Love must be honest and true.... Hold on to what is good.

Romans 12:10- Love each other deeply. Honor others more than yourselves.

Romans 12:14- Bless those who hurt you.

Romans 12:16- ...Be willing to be a friend of people who aren't considered important. Don't think you are better than others.

Romans 12:17- Don't pay back evil with evil....

Romans 12:21- Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

I hope those verses were inspiring to you! There also a lot more cool verses in Romans 12 and in the Bible in general, but there are too many for me to write all of them down. Maybe sometime when you're bored, you can open up a Bible and see what you can learn from it! Or just save some time at the end of each day so you can have a chance to dig deeper into God's word. :D I'm making that my goal from now on...how about you? :)
